Cuyamaca 100k Training Run #1

First Run Details:

7/10, 7AM  Loop 1, Sweetwater to Merrigan to Green Valley to Sweetwater (13.5 miles)  First section of the course (minus the first 1.4 miles). 

We will have a couple popups, snacks, and cold beverages at the finish, so please bring a chair and plan on hanging out with us afterwards!

Turn by turn directions:  

Meet at Sweetwater Parking Area ($10 fee applies, be prepared to use the passport parking app)

  • Run starts at 7AM sharp
  • Head up the trail to the right as you leave the parking lot, and in 0.1 miles turn right onto the East Side Trail.
  • At South Boundary Fire Road (Mile 1.4) turn right and cross the road.
  • Follow South Boundary Fire Road to Sweetwater Trail and Turn left (Mile 3.3)
  • Follow Sweetwater Trail to 4-way intersection, go straight across to Merrigan Fire Road (Mile 4.5)
  • Follow Merrigan Fire Road to Merrigan Trailhead and turn around (Mile 6.4)
  • Returning the way you came on Merrigan Fire Road, turn left at Dead Horse Trail (Mile 7.1)
  • Follow Dead Horse to CRHT and turn right (Mile 9.4)
  • Stay on CRHT to intersection with Falls Fire Road, turn right (mile 10.6)
  • At Falls Parking area, turn left and follow the main road through Green Valley Campground to Arroyo Seco Picnic Area.  Cross the parking lot and find the connector trail (labeled To Westside & Monument Trail) near the small amphitheater area (Mile 12.3)
  • Follow connector trail to West Side Trail and follow West Side to HWY 79 (marked on trail markers.
  • Find our popup tent and tables and join us for some refreshing, cold beverages!


Too short? At Green Valley Campground, go to campsite # 38, find the Pine Ridge Trail, and follow it 2 miles over the ridge, make two rights and come back to Green Valley via Arroyo Seco Fire Road.  You’ve added about 2.5 miles and seen another 2 miles of the course.


Still too short?  At the finish, make a left and run 1.4 miles to Camp Cuyamaca and the starting line, and come back the same way.  There, another 2.8 miles.
